The experience using Voyant was very different from when I was using the Gale Digital Scholar Lab. One thing I noticed was that Voyant felt more straightforward. Even before reading the training section on each tool, I already had a good sense of what information the tool would put out, just by looking at it. I feel okay, though a bit hesitant, about helping someone learn to use Voyant, but I think it’s simple enough that I could get the hang of it quickly even after not using it for a while. One thing similar between Voyant and the GDSL is that you can see words that come up most frequently in the form of word clouds. Other than that, I don’t see many similarities between them. The GDSL has a more technical, scholarly feel to it, while Voyant feels more approachable to me. To do a quick analysis, I think I prefer Voyant, but I like how the GDSL does specific analyses for the user, like tracking sentiment over time.
