My Goal: To find hotspots for fatal vehicular accidents in Florida.
What I Used: From ArcOnline, I found the following layers:
- FDOT District Boundaries (the original layer had a different colour for each district so I made all the districts have the same colour since I was focusing on a state level and not a district level)
- National_Highway_System_TDA
- 2020 Fatal Motor Vehicle Accidents (FARS)
Many of the analysis tools that I wanted to use required ‘Credits’ and I wasn’t sure what those were, so I just avoided using them. The map that I ended up with more or less aligns with what I was trying to accomplish. I made a heatmap that shows hotspots for accidents in Florida, in relation to where the main roads run. The hotspots seem to be in the vicinities of larger cities (south Florida had the highest hotspots) and in places where different types of roads cross, especially where the Interstate and arterials cross.
I feel more comfortable using ArcOnline’s Map Viewer Classic this time around, since I hadn’t really used it before my first Vivero training. This exercise went by a lot more quickly than the first one, probably because I’ve gotten much more familiar with ArcGIS through classes and Vivero trainings this semester.
