As I begin my work as a Vivero Fellow, I am most excited about all the tools that I will be learning to use. I’ve always liked to learn how to do things myself, and I feel like this Fellowship is going to open me up to a whole new side of technology, a threshold that I do not think I would have crossed on my own, without this nudge.
Through my introduction to cPanel and WordPress, I feel like I’ve gained superpowers! Looking at my published webpage and those of other fellows, I see so much that I am already familiar with through my daily interactions with websites, and I am looking forward to learning more about these tools. I am intrigued as I see how customizable most things on a website are, and I am looking forward to playing around with settings to come up with something that represents me well. Even more exciting for me is the thought that I will be able to help others to learn these tools. It’s almost dizzying how empowered I feel right now, knowing that something like organising a webpage and domain is within my reach, and I want all my peers who come to mentoring sessions to feel that way, too – unintimidated by the tools we are using. For some reason, it took me a while just to figure out how to get back to my portfolio, so that part was frustrating. Nevertheless, I know that more practice is the only way to get better at using everything.
